Artist’s Statement

My life began in a small southeastern Ohio town in 1953, where I lived until I attended college, in another small southeastern Ohio town. I graduated from Ohio University in Athens in 1975 with a B.S. degree in Art Education and a minor in Painting. I thought I would conquer the world, so to speak... well it did not happen as I had planned. However, I did move to Columbus, Ohio and embarked on a new career as a graphic designer, working my way up through the ranks, until I became the assistant art director of the largest T-shirt imprint corporation in the nation, known as Airwaves. After Airwaves, and having become a bit "burnt out" with the commercial art world, I moved around quite a bit, all over the country actually, however always painting...it was a force so strong inside of me that I could not deny.

I found myself a single parent in my late thirties, and began another career. I moved back to the little town within which I was born, and became the Art Director of the largest embroidery corporation in the country, known as 5B's Inc. Of course I was always painting, but with much less time to do so.

In 1997, my life began again when I moved to New Mexico. The people and the land speak to me as no other place I have dwelled within. I live in a valley, surrounded by the vastness of the mountains, 25 miles south of Santa Fe, between the villages of Cerrillos and Madrid, where my husband and I have created a sanctuary for animals. My sanctuary is a home for abandoned, abused, or neglected farm animals

I now am able to create. My art is inspired from within and from All That Is. When I paint, I detach from my surroundings. I have no concept of what will occur on canvas... I simply allow and see what happens. It is very exciting and mystical. To me, art is an emotion expressed...whatever that emotion may be...and as always, it is a gift from our Creator.
